Prime Minister Imran Khan Tuesday refused to replace Usman Buzdar with Aleem Khan as the Chief Minister of Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Disgruntled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleem Khan yesterday announced joining Jahangir Khan Tareen (JKT) group. He had also expressed his reservations on the governance style of the Punjab government.

Earlier, the ruling Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf has expressed its willingness to replace Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar with Aleem Khan but its ally PML-Q has 'other thoughts'

Sources informed the TV channel on Tuesday that the PTI has decided to bring its own candidate, most likely Aleem Khan, as next Punjab Chief Minister, aiming to foil the opposition’s possible no-confidence move.

There is a suggestion that Aleem Khan should replace Usman Buzdar in Punjab as powers-that-be also have no objection to working with Aleem Khan.

Aleem Khan is in Islamabad where Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Sindh Governor Imran Ismael reached at the site to convince him to support Imran Khan instead of going anywhere.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) rejected the PTI's offer to replace Usman Buzdar with Aleem Khan as the Chief Minister of Punjab.

Sources privy to the development revealed that a three-member delegation of the PTI ministers, led by Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, called on the PML-Q ministers including Moonis Elahi and Tariq Bashir Cheema.

During the meeting, the PTI ministers offered to replace Usman Buzdar with Aleem Khan as the Chief Minister of Punjab which the PML-Q ministers rejected, saying that Usman Buzdar should be allowed to stay in the CM office.

The sources also revealed that the PML-Q itself wanted the seat of the chief minister in Punjab, and it wanted Usman Buzdar to continue occupying the seat otherwise.

The PTI delegation will meet Prime Minister Imran Khan today after the PML-Q’s refusal, and it will hold consultations with the senior party leadership about the current political situation in the country.

The meeting, that is to be held with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, will also review strategy for foiling the opposition’s no-confidence move.

The party leadership will also be informed about the activities of the disgruntled PTI leaders in Punjab.
