Due to the shortage of wheat, Punjab witnessed a big increase in flour price, 24News HD TV channel reported on Monday.
According to the details, flour mills have increased flour rates by Rs100 per sack of 20 kilograms and the new price of a sack reached Rs2,700.
Flour Mills Association Punjab (FMAP) Chairman Iftikhar Matthu said Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi should take notice of the matter as a flour crisis is taking place in Punjab.
The FMAP chairman said 70 per cent of Lahore's mills have been closed due to the non-availability of wheat which is the main reason for an increase in price.
Iftikhar Mattu said when the wheat will be given to the flour mills at official rates then the price of flour will not increase.
He said wheat is not available at the official price to the flour mills and they are being forced to buy expensive wheat from the open market while the prices of wheat in the open market have exceeded Rs5,000.
