Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Friday expressed concerns over the IMF’s suggestions to the government to increase the sales tax and regulatory duties, reported 24News HD TV channel.
In the matter of negotiations with the IMF government, the PPP leader Nayyar Hussian Bokhari expressed concerns over the IMF's terms and expressed fears of further inflation in the country. Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said that the IMF had proposed to increase sales tax and regulatory duties to Pakistan. The IMF has also proposed to increase the annual tax target to Rs63 trillion, he said. He said Pakistan is an independent country, how can the IMF dictate?
Bukhari said that the PPP rejected all these conditions of IMF. “If IMF's dictation is implemented, no one can stop the tsunami of inflation in the country,” said Bukhari.
He said inflation was already on the rise in the country and the poor people were forced to commit suicides. “If sales tax and regulatory duties are increased then people will be on the streets,” said Nayyar Bukhari.
