Cop in Shikarpur, who had demanded Rs1,000 from youth, suspended

SSP Shikarpur Shahzeb Chachar has suspended the policeman who had demanded Rs1,000 for shifting an injured youth to a hospital after a video of the incident went viral on social media, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

Maqsood, the youth, offered resistance to the robbers who had tried to snatch cash and a motorcycle from him near the village Ali Khan in the limits of Dakhan police station.

Angered at his act, the robbers fired at him due to which he was injured.

The youth said he was returning home from the workplace when he was intercepted by dacoits. “I informed the police on time. But one of the policemen, named Riaz Bhutto, instead of transporting me to a hospital immediately, demanded Rs1,000 from me for the job,” he explained.

He said what he could give to the police when he had lost his items to dacoits.

The SSP has said he has also sought a report from DSP Garhi Yasin Rana Nasrullah. “I have also formed an inquiry committee, which is headed by ASP Muneeb Ahmad.”
