Two more suspected monkeypox cases reported in Islamabad

Two more suspected cases of monkeypox have been reported in Islamabad, with the patients, who arrived from abroad, being brought to PIMS Hospital after showing suspicious symptoms at the airport, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to sources at PIMS, the patients were immediately shifted to the hospital, and their samples were sent to the National Institute of Health for testing.
This development comes as Pakistan has already reported four confirmed cases of monkeypox.
The latest confirmed case was reported from Peshawar on August 29, 2024, involving a 47-year-old citizen from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The patient was isolated by Border Health Services staff after exhibiting symptoms upon returning from the Gulf countries.
Dr Mukhtar Bharath, the National Coordinator for Health, stated that an effective screening system is operational at all airports across the country to detect and manage potential cases.
He emphasised that the Ministry of Health is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant communication with provincial authorities to ensure readiness and implement preventive measures.
