One more case of poliovirus has been confirmed in Sindh after mobile vaccination teams found a patient in Jacobabad during the last anti-polio campaign of the ongoing year, bringing the total number of patients reported from across the country this year to 64, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
This is the fourth case of the virus reported from the city this year.
The National Institute of Health’s (NIH) regional reference laboratory has confirmed that the latest case is Wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV 1).
This year, 26 cases were reported from Balochistan, 18 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), while one case from Islamabad and Punjab each.
These days polio vaccination campaign is underway in 143 districts in the country.
Under the campaign, over 40 million children under five years of age will be administered the drops to protect them from the virus.
