"Taking it to Stone Age?": Mariyam Nafees questions authorities' decision over Monal restaurant closure

Popular Pakistani actress Mariyam Nafees took to her Instagram stories and gave her opinion regarding the closure of Monal restaurant, Islamabad which is shutting down permanently in September on the directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The showbiz personality shared that while she supports preserving nature and wildlife, she also believes in progress and sustainable development.
“As much as I’m all about preserving nature, natural parks, wildlife-I’m also a huge supporter of progression and sustainable development”, she said.
Moreover, Mariyam questioned the decision to close the restaurant, which had been a popular spot for tourists and locals for 18 years.
“Firstly, one shouldn’t have let this take place and now that it had and had been running successfully for 18 YERS, became a MAJOR tourist and local attraction you all decide to close it down. WHAT EVEN”, she wrote.
Further, she criticized the authorities, wondering if they were taking the country back to the Stone Age with such decisions.
“I truly fail to understand the ones running this country and where you all are taking it. Stone Age?”

Monal Restaurant remains one of the most popular dining spots in Islamabad, known for its stunning views and diverse menu.
A recent post shared on Monal's social site said confirmed its closure next month. “It’s time to say Goodbye. As per Honorable SCP directions, we are closing on 11/09/2024,” the post reads.
On June 11, The Supreme Court (SC) ordered the closure of Monal Restaurants and all other eateries in the Margalla Hills National Park in Islamabad.
The Supreme Court bench led by CJP Justice Qazi Faez Isa while rejecting the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) report, ordered the administration to close all restaurants in Margalla Hills National Park within 90 days.
SC in its verdict said National Park cannot be used for commercial activities. The apex court also said to consider affected restaurants in land leasing outside the National Park.
