The Islamabad High Court has summoned the investigation officer probing cases against Shehryar Khan Afridi in contempt proceedings on June 15 for failing to produce the former interior minister and the PTI leader before the court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
IHC judge Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir on Friday heard a petition seeking contempt proceedings against police for not bringing Afridi in the relevant court despite the court order that the PTI leader should be produced until June 7.
At the outset of the hearing, Justice Tahir inquired why the police did not comply with the order and failed to produce Afridi before the court. He indicated to initiate contempt proceedings against the police officials on the violation of the order.
The Islamabad High Court had voided the district magistrate’s order regarding detention of Shehryar Afridi declaring it illegal and terming it beyond the powers of a magistrate.
The court had ordered that Afridi would be considered being arrested in criminal cases already registered against him.
The court further directed the police to present Afridi before the magistrate on June 7 in cases filed against him.
