Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said she has directed the inspector general of police (IGP), Punjab to refrain from using force against the lawyers protesting outside the Lahore High Court (LHC), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

In her tweet, she has said that confrontation must be avoided in order to ensure that the people of Lahore remain safe.

She has also urged black coats to resolve their issues with the LHC amicably.

DIG alleges lawyers wanted to storm LHC

DIG Operations Muhammad Faisal Kamran, on the other hand, has said that the lawyers wanted to storm the LHC.

He has further said that over 20 lawyers have been taken into custody and shifted to Islampura, Anarkali, Civil Lines, and Lower Mall police stations.

Earlier on Wednesday, hundreds of lawyers went berserk during their protest outside the LHC against the registration of cases against their colleagues under terrorism-related sections and the shifting of some of the courts to other locations.

This led to their clash with a heavy contingent of police which had already taken its position outside the high court.

The police baton-charged as well as teargassed the protestors and later arrested them.
