A girl was found dead in a washroom of a bus terminal in Islamabad, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

The identity of the victim has not been ascertained. A citizen spotted the body and informed the police.

Rescuers shifted the body to PIMS Hospital where a postmortem examination found the victim was raped before being choked to death.

A three-member board conducted the autopsy and decided to conduct a forensic test. Blood samples have been sent to the Punjab Science Forensic Agency.

A special squad, headed by the SSP investigation, has been tasked with bringing the culprit to book.

The shocking incident comes to the spotlight on the day when the lower house of the parliament passed three bills related to child rights – National Commission on the Rights of Child (Amendment) Bill 2021, Islamabad Capital Territory Child Protection (Amendment) Bill 2021,  Juvenile Justice System (Amendment) Bill.

Crimes against child girls and women have been on the rise and human rights activists cite weak prosecution and non-implementation of related laws as the main reason.
