Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi Tuesday paid a visit to Lahore Camp Jail where he spent two hours listening to the problems of prisoners and had reviewed the facilities being provided to them, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He inspected the barracks of male and female inmates and inquired about their problems.
After listening to their grievances in detail, he announced to form a special committee for the prisoners to prove their innocence.
Mohsen Naqvi said that the committee will review the evidence and submit a report regarding the innocent. Later, legal action will be taken to release them, he added.
The CM inspected the prison kitchen and checked the quality of the food.
The CM inspected the jail's hospital where he met the prisoners suffering from mental disorders.
The Chief Minister expressed his anger over the lack of air coolers for the prisoners in the barracks and ordered to install coolers and fans within three days. He said that prisoners are also human beings, they should get basic facilities. He also inquired about the behavior of the jail staff toward prisoners.
Some prisoners also complained to the Chief Minister about the misbehavior of the prison staff. Over it, the Chief Minister directed the authorities to investigate the matter.
Mohsin also allowed the prisoners to talk to their loved ones twice a week. He directed the staff to keep prisoners in the barracks according to capacity. He also gave instructions to check up on the children of the prisoners regularly.
IG Jail, Deputy Commissioner, and Jail Superintendent were also present on this occasion.
