Punjab govt decides to establish ‘beggar barracks’ in jails

CM Maryam Nawaz directs police to bring down the crime rate in province

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has chaired a meeting to review the law and order situation in the province on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The meeting agreed on the proposal to establish "beggar barracks" in Punjab jails.

During the meeting, Inspector General Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar gave a briefing on the law and order situation.

Addressing the participants, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that police should control crime and the crime rate across the province must be brought down in any case.

Maryam Nawaz said that ‘No Go Area’ is not tolerated anywhere in Punjab.

When crimes are high, people forget the reforms and development of the government, said Maryam Nawaz.

The Chief Minister said that the police are also sacrificing but there are also black sheep.

She said that government is providing full resources to the police so that there is no reduction in efficiency.

In order to eliminate corruption, performance analysis and investigation system is being introduced in the police, said Maryam Nawaz.

She said that 14 special check posts are being created to stop inter-provincial smuggling.

Vehicles, equipment, weapons, training and fulfilling every demand of the police and now it is responsibility of every policeman standing at the check post to ensure safety, Maryam Nawaz said.

She said that effective action should be taken on DG Khan model to prevent electricity theft across the province and if electricity theft ends, load shedding will also be zero.

I appreciate IG, RPO Sargodha and DPO for rescuing 10 persons from the mob and evacuating them safely, Maryam Nawaz said.

She said more than 50 percent reduction in robbery incidents in Lahore is welcomed.

RPO Sheikhupura has been given a deadline to control the incidents of robbery, she said.

She said that the cases of stealing and theft of sacrificial animals should be addressed.

Police should take effective measures to prevent incidents of aerial firing, Maryam Nawaz ordered.

She said that blocking a road in the presence of a traffic warden is very sad.

Ended political interference in police affairs, now the police should perform, Maryam Nawaz said.

DPOs should clean district from corrupt officials and criminals, ordered Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Senator Pervez Rasheed, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Inspector General Police Dr Usman Anwar, Additional Inspector General Special Branch, DIG Operations, CCPO and other officials attended the meeting.

All RPOs, CPOs, DPOs participated in the meeting through video link.
