The weather will remain hot and dry in most parts of the country; however, the monsoon season is likely to arrive in Karachi in the month of May, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to the Meteorological Department, a wave of westerly winds will enter the country on May 1 (today), and intermittent rains are likely to continue till May 5 in different areas.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted rain-wind in Karachi from May 1. The departments concerned have been directed by the local bodies to remain alert during the days of Eid.
However, at present, the local bodies do not seem to be doing much work in terms of drain cleaning.
Tenders have recently been issued in Karachi for cleaning drains, but the process of cleaning small drains has not been started by the District Municipal Corporations (DMCs).
There are about 500 small drains within the jurisdiction of the DMCs, and rains during Eid days can cause serious problems for the local bodies.
Due to the lack of drainage, an integrated drainage strategy needs to be formulated. It will be difficult to achieve the desired results by simply installing dewatering pumps for cleaning drains.
