Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday addressed the last session of the National Assembly on completing its parliamentary tenure and expressed his sorrow about the punishment of one of the largest political party's leader Imran Khan.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, PM Shehbaz said they were not happy about a party leader being punished.

The PM advised his political cadre that they should not distribute sweets on the suffering [arrest] of opponents and if it has happened from them, it has gone wrong.

Addressing the House, the PM also declared the May 9 incidents a rebellion against the country and the army chief.

He said the prices of petrol had to be increased due to the recession in the whole world and the war in Ukraine. He described that there was a good debate in the cabinet before shifting the burden of petrol price hikes on the poor people.

He thanked his colleagues for choosing him as PM on April 11, 2022, for the shortest period of any government with big economic problems.

Shehbaz Sharif said these problems included the burden of incompetence from the previous government and the need to increase petrol prices due to the global recession and war in Ukraine.

The PM praised the country’s martyrs for saving children from being orphaned but lamented that their own children would become orphans.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the huge price paid in the war against terrorism and how terrorism was eradicated.

During his speech, there was a noise in the House as members were signing files from Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah. On this, the PM stopped his speech angrily and sent Khawaja Asif to Rana Sanaullah to stop signing the files.
