At a time when people in the country are battling inflation, especially unprecedented power rates, and are even taking their lives to get rid of their miseries, prompting the Jamaat-e-Islami to hold a sit-in in Rawalpindi, yet another person ended his life on Saturday which shows the seriousness of the issue, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A vendor in tehsil Chishtian of Bahawalnagar committed suicide after receiving an inflated electricity bill, amounting to Rs17,000.
The deceased’s father told the police that his son took his life after consuming poisonous pills, and that he did not want action against anybody.
The Jamaat’s sit-in ended only when the government assured the political party to revisit the agreements signed with the independent power producers (IPPs) and reduce electricity prices.
