The Sindh High Court fumed on Thursday after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) submitted an answer to the court regarding delay in holding of the second phase of local bodies elections in the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A bench, headed by SHC Chief Justice, heard pleas filed by Pakistan Teheek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) over delay in the polls for local bodies.

The ECP, in its reply, told the SHC that the meeting of all the stakeholders could not take place due to the holiday on November 9.

“Now the meeting will be held on November 15,” it added.

“The interior secretary, Sindh inspector general of police (IGP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui have been informed about the meeting,” it said.

“The Sindh chief secretary, former premier Imran Khan and Hafiz Naeemur Rehman have also been invited to attend the meeting,” it stated.

The CJ observed that the court repeatedly had said that it was the job of the Election Commission to hold the elections.

About the non-availability of security personnel, the CJ remarked that what kind of duty the police was performing in the flood-stricken areas and why were they even needed there.

The court sought report from IG Police and DG Rangers Sindh on total strength of personnel in the province and how many of them were deployed in the flood-hit areas.

The court later adjourned the hearing until November 14.
