Lahore experiences 250 road accidents daily

Lahore city has been experiencing more than 250 road accidents daily, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.   

As many as 275 traffic accidents have been reported in the last 24 hours in the provincial capital city, three persons have lost their lives and 311 are injured in these roadside accidents. Out of these accidents, 162 critically injured people were rushed to the hospitals. At least 70 per cent of those injured are motorcyclists. 

According to the rescue sources, high speed, violation of traffic rules, and indifferent attitude of the authorities are the main causes behind road accidents. 

According to a report, 28 people lost their lives only in the month of September in the city in different traffic accidents. 

As many as, 7,847 traffic accidents were reported in the city, in which 8,188 people were injured, 28 people lost their lives and hundreds of people were disabled for life.  

The report adds, 60 per cent of the victims were riding motorcycles and mostly young people were among the victim.  

Ironically, 1407 women are also included among the injured due to accidents. 2605 people aged between 21 and 30 years were injured in accidents. 

The report further states that 305 accidents occurred due to over-speeding, 2316 due to negligence, 204 owing to taking the wrong turn, and seven owing to one wheeling. More than 4,000 accidents were reported based on other reasons. 

The sources said that the traffic police focused all their priorities on fines. A comprehensive strategy could not be made yet to prevent accidents, they added. 

The increase in traffic accidents in the city is alarming despite the awareness campaign conducted by the traffic police at various places.

The reduction of accidents can be made possible by implementing traffic laws properly.
