Reprimanding director Excise Department for issuing a permit for the opening of a liquor bar in a Muslim majority area of Karachi, the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday ordered that no such bar would be opened in the area until further orders, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Hearing a petition filed against the opening of a liquor bar in the Buffer Zone area of the Sindh capital, the court asked the Excise Department director who had allowed him to violate rules and regulations in this regard.
Advocate Usman Farooq told the SHC that the bar was opened in the Buffer Zone in close proximity to mosques and seminaries in the area. “Since opening a booze shop in a Muslim-dominated area is prohibited under the laws, therefore, the court is requested to issue instructions to the respondent not to open the shop in Buffer Zone’s sector 16-A,” he prayed.
The judge also directed parties to the case to refrain from taking law into their own hands until he gave further orders.
