61pc of water in Pakistan not safe for drinking: Senate told

Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) on Friday told the Senate that 61 percent of water is not safe for drinking in Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
It said that 100 percent water in Gilgit Baltistan, Mirpur Khas and Shaheed Benazirabad is unsafe for human consumption.
According to the PCRWR report, 94% water is unsafe in Multan; 93% in Karachi; 92% in Badin; 83% in Sargodha; 70% in Muzaffarabad; 59% in Faisalabad; and 80% water is not safe for drinking in Hyderabad.
In a sample of 29 cities, drinking water of Kasur was found safest as only 10% of its water is not fit for human consumption.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz urged in Senate that the provinces should ensure to provide clean drinking water as per the international water standards.
