FIA to nab Shaukat Tarin in IMF audio leak scandal

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to arrest former finance minister Shaukat Tarin after investigating the audio leak related to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday, FIA has completed the investigation on the leaked audio of PTI leader Shaukat Tarin after which it has decided to initiate legal proceedings against him for his alleged attempt to disrupt the IMF loan programme.
The reports said the FIA has sought permission from the Interior Ministry for arresting the former finance minister. Shaukat may be arrested in the next few days.
The controversy surfaced last year in August when Tarin asked ex-Punjab finance minister Mohsin Leghari and KP finance minister Taimur Jhagra to backtrack from IMF commitments ahead of the final meeting of the IMF for approval of the loan.
Following the instructions, Jhagra wrote a letter to the federal finance minister Miftah Ismael. However, Mohsin kept himself stay away from the issue smartly.
The FIA also concluded that Tarin wanted to damage national interest and security. The leaked audio had been sent to the FIA for investigation by the PDM-led government.
Shaukat Tarin’s conversation was to harm the deal with the IMF and resultantly he wanted to harm national interests and security, the report stated quoting FIA.
