An appellate tribunal on Wednesday upheld the decision of the Returning Officer of NA-130 accepting the nomination papers of PML-N supremo and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Election Appellate Tribunal comprising Justice Ahmed Nadeem Arshad delivered the reserved verdict.
Additional Secretary Irrigation Asghar Joya approved the nomination papers of Nawaz from Lahore’s NA-130 constituency.
Ishtiaq Chaudhry, the chief of Pakistan Awami Mahaz (PAM), submitted the appeal and asserted that Nawaz has been disqualified for life by the Supreme Court, rendering him ineligible to contest the elections scheduled for February 8.
Chaudhry claimed that the returning officer (RO) approved Nawaz's nomination papers contrary to the facts, hence, he prayed that Nawaz be declared ineligible and his nomination papers be rejected.
