(IHC) on Thursday ordered the inspector general of police, Islamabad and the head of the joint investigation team (JIT) to appear in the court in person in journalist Arshad Sharif’s ‘murder’ case on July 25, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

During the hearing of the petition, seeking the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the killing of the journalist, IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Aamer Farooq also summoned the attorney general for Pakistan (AGP) on July 25 for assistance.

The Additional Attorney General for Pakistan (AAG) Munawar Iqbal Duggal, on the occasion, told the court that the JIT had completed its probe in the case within the territorial limits of Pakistan. “The government is holding talks with the government of Kenya for signing an agreement on MLAs,” he informed.

Duggal said that so far 44 meetings of the JIT had been held.

“I am least concerned with the number of meetings held,” the CJ said, adding, “What I want to know is the outcome of these meetings.”

The AAG said that since the incident had taken place in Kenya, therefore no headway was possible in the probe as long as the country cooperated with Pakistan.

Infuriated over his remarks, the CJ said, “Do you mean to say that no progress has been made in the investigation so far?”

Duggal, however, said that some progress had definitely been made. “For instance, we have gathered the record of all the cases registered in connection with the incident,” he elaborated.

“Then what happened next? What was the outcome?” Justice Farooq questioned.

“Ask the AGP to appear in the court on the next hearing.”

The court then adjourned the case’s hearing until July 25.
