Beautiful Confessions with Asma Nabeel is a brilliant new initiative by Sadia Jabbar Productions where voices of women are heard as they sit and casually chat with the host. It highlights their efforts, handwork, and all that they went through to reach where they stand right now.
This time, Asma invited popular television actress Hajra Yamin and here is what she said in the show.
About her journey in the showbiz, she said: “I always wanted to be an actress. I used to look at other actresses and think I want to be like them one day. I was not great in studies, so theatre became a way to express myself.”
She further adds, “I don’t hold anyone accountable. From their point of view, I was a girl living alone in a chaotic city like Karachi. It’s an entirely different perspective. Our culture can be extremely toxic to women. Our parents want to protect us from that. But this generation is different. I am used to people questioning my character. Women have become used to living in danger, at risk. But we need to fight it. People say I am an angry person, but there are reasons for it,” the Pinky Memsab star added.
Talking about relationships, she said that one has to prioritize their happiness.
“There are some relationships which are beyond repair. You have to let go. Even if it hurts you, you should always come 1st. Your own happiness is important. Unless you are happy, what meaning does a relationship have?”
Talking about her characters' choice, she said that she goes to the theatre to find strong and meaningful roles.
Remembering her early days, Hajra Yamin recalled one instance where someone at a TV channel told her that she didn’t look like a conventional heroine, so she should take a job as his secretary.
Well, Hajra has certainly a long way from those days. Her struggle has made her a star. The way she speaks today is reflective of the hard work she has had to put in to get to this position.
