IHC orders action in journalists’ torture case under terrorism laws

In an important development in the case of police torture on journalists presently being heard by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), an additional district and sessions judge on Saturday ordered action against those nominated in the case of police torture registered on February 28, 2023 under terrorism-related laws, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, while pronouncing the verdict, ordered the police to record the statements of journalists in the case of terrorism.

The judge also ordered the police to take action against those responsible as per law. 

Journalists had filed a petition in the court, seeking action against the assistant commissioner and some police officers. 

Police had tortured journalists Saqib Bashir, Zeeshan Syed, Idrees Abbasi and Shah Khalid at the premises of Islamabad High Court.
