The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said that telecom operators have agreed to block non filers’ mobile phone SIM cards manually in phases and in this respect, FBR has shared details of 5,000 non-filers to the operators on Friday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During a meeting with telecom operators, FBR urged the operators to ensure the blocking of mobile phone SIM cards of the people who did not file tax returns during the fiscal year 2023. The operators were told that more lists would be sent to them on a daily basis.
The revenue collection authority claimed that telecom operators have started sending warning messages to non-filers regarding the blocking of their phone cards.
FBR is of the view that the threat of SIM card blocking was aimed at an increase in tax collection. The partnership with the operators reflects FBR’s commitment to the supremacy of tax laws.
