Federal minister Rana Sanaullah has chaired a meeting to review measures to maintain law and order in wake of former prime minister Imran Khan’s long march threat, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.
The chief secretaries and police chiefs of KP and Punjab as well as other senior officials attended the meeting. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief has been threatening to march to the federal capital to topple the PML-N-led coalition government in the centre.
Though he has not announced the date for the march, the federal government has stepped up efforts to maintain law and order. During the meeting, chief secretaries and IGPs expressed their determination to continue discharging their duties according to the constitution.
The federal minister directed the May 25-like incident should be averted at all costs as, according to him police officers, were involved in that issue. He warned the government employees assisting the marchers would be acted against under the Estacode – a government’s book of rules and regulations to run all federal institutions.
Imran Khan claims the US concocted a plot to bring regime change to Pakistan earlier in the ongoing year while the coalition government says his failure to deliver made them bring a no-trust vote in March that led to his ouster from the PMO. Also, the Joe Biden administration had too denied any role in the process. The PTI and its allies have been ruling Punjab and KP.
