The grand premiere of Bigg Boss 18 introduced 18 new contestants, ranging from TV actors to social media influencers however, the real buzz was about the ’19th contestant’—a donkey named Gadhraj, whose presence in the house sparked mixed reactions from viewers.

The animal welfare organization PETA India slammed the Bollywood star Salman Khan’s reality show Bigg Boss 18 for featuring a donkey as a contestant.

On Wednesday, Shaurya Agrawal, an advocacy associate at PETA India, addressed a letter to host Salman Khan, expressing concerns about the donkey’s presence on the show. “We are being inundated with complaints by members of the public who are deeply distressed over the keeping of a donkey in the Bigg Boss house. Their concerns are valid and must not be ignored,” the letter stated.

Agrawal urged Salman Khan to utilize his influence as the show’s host to hand over the donkey to PETA India to re-home in a sanctuary with other rescued donkeys.

The organization emphasized that the “use of animals on a show set is no laughing matter” and asked Salman Khan not to use animals as props for entertainment.

“Society has evolved, and the caring public finds the use of animals on shows sad, not funny. Please take the steps suggested in this letter to show that Bigg Boss recognizes animals deserve our compassion and respect,” he pinned.
