Accepting the request made by Dr. Dinshaw, a suspect in the Bahria Town, Karachi's Icon Tower case, for the return of his passport, the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday allowed him to go to the UK to attend his daughter’s wedding, return home within two months and submit his passport to the trial court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A three-member of the SC, headed by Justice Jamal Mandokhel, heard the case.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor, on the occasion, told the court that the anti-corruption watchdog had no objection to his traveling abroad once. “The court has already allowed suspects in different cases to go abroad, but once,” he said, and added it was likely that the case might be transferred to any other forums following the apex court’s verdict on amendments to the NAB law.
Justice Shahzad Malik asked him whether he could guarantee that Dinshaw would return.
Farooq H. Naek, Dinshaw’s counsel, told the judge that his client was ready to submit surety bonds for the purpose.
He went on to say that the suspect did not want the court to revisit any case. “All he wants is to travel to the UK to attend the wedding of his daughter.”
Justice Musarrat Halali asked the NAB prosecutor why the case trial did not start despite the passage of four years. “What did the bureau keep doing throughout this period?” she questioned.
