The water of the Indus River has been completely diverted towards the diversion tunnel of Bhasha Dam.


Talking to 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday, General Manager of the project Nazakat Hussain said that the construction work on Diamer Bhasha Dam Project, which is being built in Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan, is going on rapidly and the experiment of diverting the water of Indus River flowing for centuries to the diversion tunnel has been completed.


He said that this project is being constructed on the Indus River approximately 315 km upstream from Tarbela Dam, 180 km from Gilgit and 40 km downstream from Chilas city.


The completion of the Diamer Bhasha Dam project is scheduled for 2028-29 and it is planned to have a height of 272 meters with a spillway of fourteen gates each 11.5 meters × 16.24 meters.


According to WAPDA, the construction of Diamer Bhasha Dam project will provide 4500 Megawatt (MW) of electricity to the country while there will be a storage capacity of 8.1 million acre feet of water.
