Pakistan to get another 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine gift from China

Pakistan will receive another half a million doses of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine as a gift from its longtime ally China, reported 24News H TV channel.
The half a million doses of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine are expected to reach Pakistan by the month-end and the Foreign Ministry has notified the Health Ministry regarding the gift.
China has already gifted Pakistan 1.5million doses of Covid-19 vaccine and the country has already begun a much-awaited vaccination campaign. In the first phase, frontline health workers and those over age 65 are being inoculated.
Pakistan’s private sector is also administering Russia’s Sputnik-V vaccine to people aged 18 and above.
Pakistan currently facing the third wave of coronavirus pandemic as new cases spike in the country.
On Monday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan will receive 15 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine from the World Health Organisation's (WHO) COVAX scheme as the country continues to battle the pandemic's third wave.
Qureshi took to twitter to announce the development after his meeting with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.
"Following my meeting with Foreign Minister @HeikoMaas, I am happy to announce that Pakistan will receive 15 million doses of the #COVID vaccine under COVAX, with a commitment for these to be delivered by May," FM Qureshi said in a tweet.
