Pakistan, UK to lay focus on curbing illegal immigration

Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi called on UK Home Secretary Ms Yvette Cooper during his visit to the United Kingdom and discussed a raft of issues related to immigration control and legal assistance in criminal cases, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Mohsin Naqvi congratulated Ms Cooper on assuming her new role and extended his best wishes.
The meeting focused on key issues of mutual interest, including legal assistance in criminal cases, effective border management, and measures to curb illegal immigration.
The discussion between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper also covered the training of Pakistani police officers in the UK.
Naqvi expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity and welcomed the UK's support. He emphasised the importance of enhancing cooperation to tackle illegal immigration, stating that both developed and developing countries must work together on this issue.
Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s desire to strengthen collaboration with the UK in border management, legal assistance in criminal cases, and combating illegal immigration.
He also stated that there should be no leniency for those who incite violence through social media, condemning such actions as unacceptable.
In response, the UK Home Secretary assured continued cooperation with Pakistan across various sectors.
Mohsin Naqvi extended an invitation to Cooper to visit Pakistan. The meeting was attended by Pakistan's High Commissioner to the UK, Dr Muhammad Faisal, and senior officials from the UK Home Office.
