Bangladesh's star all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, has been suspended from bowling in all competitions organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
The suspension follows concerns raised about his bowling action during a County Championship match for Surrey against Somerset in September.
In a statement, the ECB confirmed that an independent assessment conducted at Loughborough University revealed Shakib’s elbow extension exceeded the permissible 15-degree limit outlined in bowling regulations.
Shakib underwent the assessment earlier this month, after umpires reported his action during the County match. The findings confirmed a breach of the regulatory threshold, leading to the suspension.
Shakib is now required to work on rectifying his bowling action before applying for reassessment to regain eligibility to bowl in ECB-organized competitions. This is not the first instance of a high-profile player facing challenges with their bowling action, and Shakib’s experience and resilience will be critical in overcoming this hurdle.
The suspension is a setback for both the player and his teams, as Shakib’s all-around capabilities are pivotal in any competition he participates in.
