Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique announced that there would be no increase in passenger train fares, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

However, Saad Rafique said that Pakistan Railways will increase 15 percent in freight trains and 10 percent in Express trains.

Khawaja said that the rape case in PR train hurt him. He announced that he would give job to the victim girl.

Pertinent to note that a woman travelling to Karachi from Multan via Bahauddin Zakariya Express running under the private sector was gang-raped by two ticket checkers, their in-charge and two others, it emerged on May 30, 2022. Five suspects have so far been arrested in the case with three of them caught just the day after the incident was reported.

The minister claimed that he resumed the merit policy in railways and aviation.

Khawaja said that the PR deficit was Rs18b when he took charge in 2013.

He was talking to a press conference after a meeting at Pakistan Railways Headquarters in Lahore.
