The Irrigation Department declared Friday that the consumption of water from the Indus River was injurious to health, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Haji Khan Jamali, Chief Engineer at Kotri Barrage, had informed the officers of the departments concerned about this by writing a letter.
The letter had been written to the commissioner of Hyderabad division, the deputy commissioner of Jamshoro district, the managing director of Wasa Hyderabad, and the executive engineer (Xen) of Public Health Engineering Department.
In the letter, the authorities concerned had been directed to carry out complete treatment of the water before supplying it to the people.
It is to be noted here that water is supplied to Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Kotri, Thatta, Badin and other cities from the canals originating from the Kotri Barrage and the Indus River.
The floodwater, released from Manchhar Lake, is falling into the Indus River due to which the river water is being polluted.
The Irrigation Department and other authorities concerned provide river water to the people for drinking.
They have been advised to take safety measures immediately, or the human lives will be at risk otherwise.
