The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set up a committee to take to task the officials involved in Daska by-polls rigging, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to a notification, the inquiry committee will examine the conduct of the officers involved in the incident. Additional Secretary Manzoor Akhtar Malik will be the convener while the probe body members are Haroon Shinwari, Saima Tariq Janjua and Abdul Wadud Khan, it said, adding that Anjum Bashir Sheikh and Waqas Ahmed Malik will be the departmental representatives in the committee.

Following the reports of rigging in the by-polls for a national assembly seat, NA-75 Daska, initiated an inquiry.

The NA-75 Daska seat was vacated due to the death of former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentarian Syed Iftikharul Hassan Shah. By-elections were conducted for the seat, which were contested between Iftikharul Hassan’s daughter Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Ali Asjad Malhi. 

The matter was take to the Supreme Court that declared the election results null and void.
