MPA Rukhsana Kausar has submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday that demanded a ban on the beard styling arguing that it is un-Islamic, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The female MPA made the argument in the resolution submitted, saying “Beard is a Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Those who are doing any kind of designing are committing a sin.” According to the TV channel, the resolution reads, “Beard designing is a grave sin.”

In October 2019, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in Charsadda had detained at least four barbers for styling customers' beards despite an unofficial 'ban' imposed by a local traders' union which had termed such beards "un-Islamic".

The incident came to the fore in a video widely circulated on social media. In the video, a man named Sameen, who was the president of the shopkeepers union, could be seen guiding police in the arrest of the hairdressers. He asked the hairdressers why they were shaping beards in a "stylish" manner when there was a "ban" in place on the same.
