Water levels in different rivers of the country continued to rise following heavy rains and the release of water from India, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Two people died after they were swept away by flash floods caused by continuous heavy rain in Landi Kotal on Saturday.

River Sutlej burst its banks

The administration and Rescue1122 personnel swung into action as floodwater entered surrounding localities of River Sutlej after the river burst its banks at Arifwala on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.  

65, 000 cusecs of water was passing through the river at this place early in the morning while the water level continued to rise.

Water level in River Chenab rises

Gradual increase in the water level was noticed in River Chenab at Muzaffargarh.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division, water inflow at Head Punjnad was recorded at 31, 000 cusecs, while the discharge at 15, 000 cusecs.

The Division predicted that the flow of water could reach 200,000 cusecs in the coming days.

The district administration said that although the situation was under control, still water levels in Chenab and River Indus were being closely monitored.

Quite a pleasant change for the fishermen as the flow of water in River Indus at Kotri Barrage was recorded at 67, 348 cusecs.  

Heavy rain in twin cities and other areas:

On the other hand, twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Peshawar, Sialkot, adjoining areas and parts of Balochistan received a downpour early in the morning due to which low-lying areas were submerged under water while the power supply to several areas was also disrupted.

60 millimeters of rain was recorded in both the cities.  

Rawalpindi’s Javed Colony, Jamia Mosque Road, Imambargah Road, Katarian Road and Murree Road were inundated.

There was 7.5 feet of water in Nullah Lai at Katarian while 6.5 feet at Gawalmandi.

Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director (MD) Muhammad Tanveer claimed the Agency’s personnel had drained out water from several areas, while in view of more rains forecast, emergency had been announced and all concerned departments were put on a high alert. “Heavy machinery is being used for the purpose,” he added.

Spokesman for the WASA, on the other hand, said that the MD himself was keeping an eye on the situation.

There were smiles on people’s faces as heavy rain in Peshawar and other areas of KP considerably brought down the temperatures and rid the people of heatwave.  

Several low-lying areas were under knee-deep water while the supply of electricity to several areas was also disrupted.

Two people died at Landi Kotal in KP after flood wreaked havoc following heavy monsoon rain in the area.    

There was high flood in nullahs and streams, while several houses were also damaged.

The flood also obstructed the flow of traffic on different roads, including Pak-Afghan highway.

Meanwhile, heavy rain also caused floods in Tehsil Jund of Attock district which led to complete closure of intra-provincial highway.

More rains forecast:

On the other hand, weathermen predicted rains for twin cities, Kashmir, northern Punjab, including Lahore, parts of central Punjab and KP during the next 24 hours.

They said that different parts of Sindh would receive monsoon showers between July 20 and July 22.
