The government has failed to maintain quorum in the National Assembly as in the second session of the fourth parliamentary year, only 178 members turned up prompting Speaker Asad Qaiser to adjourn the house till Oct 18, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Reportedly, the government on Friday was defeated in its effort to bring members to the lower house as it intended to put forward some ‘important legislation’ before the house as had been announced by PM Advisor on Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan a few days ago.
It was the second session of the 4th parliamentary year which once again saw the dismal presence of the MNAs like the previous several sessions.
Sources informed that the government chief whip in the National Assembly, Amir Dogar was perturbed over the nonchalance of the MNAs in the house proceedings. He reportedly kept sending messages to the members of the house on WhatsApp group asking them to attend the session.
But many MNAs told him that they had stopped attending the assembly sessions because they didn’t get funds and they could not undertake any development schemes in their respective areas.
Sources said the assembly quorum completes if 186 members attend the session. With only 178 members in attendance, the speaker adjourned the house till Oct 18.
