Persistent rains leave 21 people dead, 32 injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Rains lashing different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for the last four days have claimed the lives of 21 people, injured 32 besides damaging 330 homes, says the report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.


The report elaborates that nine children, nine men and three women have lost their lives in rain-related incidents reported from different parts of the province, while 23 men, five women and four kids have been injured.  


It informs that out of total 330 homes damaged due to showers, 53 have been completely destroyed while 277 have been partially damaged.


The report says that the incidents of loss of lives and properties have been reported from different districts of KP namely Khyber, Lower and Upper Dir, Lower Chitral, Swat, Bajaur, Shangla, Mansehra, Mohmand, Malakand, Karak, Tank, Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Buner, Hangu, Battagram, Bannu, North Waziristan, Kohat and Orakzai.  


KP CM orders relief and rescue activities in affected areas


On the other hand, keeping in view the torrential rains, KP Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur has directed the district administrations and concerned departments to carry out relief and rescue activities in the areas affected by the natural calamity.


The chief minister has also ordered the provision of best medical facilities to the injured.  


On the instructions of the CM, cheques are also being distributed among the affected families.  


PDMA shares details of items distributed among rain-hit people


Giving details of relief goods given to the people affected by downpours, the Authority has said that 200 tents, 100 kitchen sets, 200 blankets, 100 hygiene kits, 100 mats, 200 mosquito killers and other goods have been sent to each district.


The PDMA has said it has directed district administrations to speed up relief and rescue activities in the rain-affected areas and utilize all resources to open the roads closed due to landslides for traffic.


It has further said it is in close touch with all concerned departments.


The Authority has informed the people that its emergency operation theater is open round the clock and that in case of any unpleasant incident, they could contact it by dialing 1700.
