PTI leaders jail trial starts for arson and sedition charges

The trials of several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including Dr. Yasmin Rashid and former governor Omar Sarfaraz Cheema, has begun in an anti-terrorism court for their alleged involvement in setting fire to a police station in Shadman and police vehicles at Rahat Bakery Chowk in Lahore on May 9, 2023.
The court, presided by Judge Muhammad Naveed Iqbal, held a hearing in Kot Lakhpat Jail on February 15, 2024 and adjourned the cases till February 21.
The court summoned all the accused who were out on bail, as well as the prosecution witnesses, to appear at the next hearing.
The court also distributed the copies of the challan to the accused, which contained serious charges of sedition, inciting public disorder and rioting.
The cases were registered in Shadman and Sarwar Road police stations under different FIR numbers.
