Ulema assure Punjab govt of their support for maintaining peace during Muharram

The committee of Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen on Saturday assured Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi of their complete support for the maintenance of peace during the holy month of Muharram, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The CM was chairing the committee’s meeting, which was attended by over 70 ulemas and religious scholars belonging to different schools of thought.
The chief minister, on the other hand, announced giving legal status to the committee.
He further said that there would be at least four committee meetings in a year.
He expressed the hope that by activating the forum of Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen, cooperation between the government and religious scholars would improve. “The government respects Ulema,” he said, adding, “The government respects the services rendered by clerics. It is imperative that we respect each other religious feelings.”
The meeting condemned the Swedish court’s verdict in which it condoned the burning of the holy Quran and Bible.
It also condemned Israel’s statement against Pakistan at the meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Besides that, the meeting strongly condemned the incidents of violence of May 9.
Maulana Tahir Ashrafi stressed that all and sundry would have to play their role for peace and tranquility in the society.
Maulana Hanif Jalandhri said there was a need to devise code of ethics so that people belonging to different sects did not injure their religious sentiments.
Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad said that religious scholars stood shoulder to shoulder with the government for the maintenance of peace.
Maulana Raghib Naeemi demanded action against those spreading hatred on social media.
