The Pak Army continued the anti-whitefly combat in South Punjab on the third consecutive day, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Friday.
Due to the hot and dry weather in south Punjab, the attack of cotton whiteflies has been observed in some areas.
The army helicopters and drones sprayed pesticides to eliminate whiteflies in the Jampur tehsil of Rajanpur.
With the help of the modern forecasting system developed by the Land Information and Management System (LIMS), the attack of whiteflies on cotton crops has been thwarted in time.
The whitefly, threatening cotton production, takes shelter in the surrounding fields during spray, so to remedy this, apart from the cluster or community spray, drone technology is also being used to spray more areas in less time.
Reportedly, the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) also lent the support of Rs50 million for the purchase of quality pesticides.
Under the directions from the chief minister, the agriculture department is fully alert and is working side by side with farmers to control the harmful insects in cotton crops.
