Jaranwala tense after alleged desecration of Holy Quran

High alert was sounded in Punjab city of Jaranwala on Wednesday following protests by locals against the alleged desecration of Holy Quran by some members of the Christian community, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Hundreds of people took part in the protests and blocked the Cinema Chowk Road. There were also reports of alleged storming of a church in a local Christian colony of Jaranwala.
The local markets were shut down along with the Motorway while the angry residents continued the protests against a Christian man and his two sons for allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran.

A heavy contingent of police led by SP Bilal Sulehri has been deployed in the city to quell the violence protests.
Jaranwala Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Masih was replaced following the protests.
The late arrival of the local SHO Mansoor Sadiq earlier contributed to the worsening of the situation.
