Punjab Cabinet Committee approves amendments in Kite Flying Ordinance 2001

Punjab government’s big initiative to discourage kite flying as Cabinet Committee on Legislation and Privatization has approved amendments in Kite Flying Ordinance 2001, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

Offenses of kite flying, kite manufacturers and kite transportation have been declared non-bailable offences.

Recommendations for amendments in the Kite Flying Ordinance have been sent to the Punjab Cabinet.

Providing facility for kite flying, manufacturing and transportation will be punishable from three years to seven years and fined from Rs2 million to Rs5 million while cord and metal wire export penalty 5 years recommended.

If found guilty of kite flying, the minimum sentence will be three years while fine for the crime of kite flying can be up to Rs2 million.

Failure to pay the fine will result in further imprisonment of six months.

It has also been proposed to increase the punishment for those who make kites and provide transportation facilities.

Manufacturers and transporters can be punished with a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum sentence of seven years and will be fined up to Rs500000.

The amendments in the Kite Flying Ordinance will be approved by the Punjab Assembly after approval by the Punjab Cabinet.

Upon the approval of the Punjab Assembly, the Governor of Punjab will sign the amendments after which the law will come into force.
