Just like the case in the past, India has once again resorted to water aggression as it has opened the spillways of River Ravi and River Chenab without prior warning, inundating thousands of villages and millions of acres of land in Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
At a time when the country is struggling to cope with the losses caused due to heavy monsoon rains, the release of water into the rivers by a hostile neighbour has further exacerbated the situation.
It has led to a significant rise in the water level at Qadirabad Barrage in River Chenab and the water level is still rising rapidly.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), on the other hand, has said that it is expected to go up to 250,000 cusecs.
Similarly, the water level at Jasarr and Shahdara in River Ravi is likely to reach 40,000 to 55,000 cusecs, prompting the Authority to urge the residents of localities on the banks of these rivers to move to safe locations.
