Power companies’ officers reject cash for free units

The officers of Wapda and Discos have rejected the government decision to abolish the facility of free electricity units given to them by their respective power companies, reported 2NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
The officers of different power companies including Wapda, Mepco, and Pesco have decided to challenge the government decision to end their free electricity units’ facility. For this purpose, they have formed committees.
The Mepco Engineers’ Association will move to the high court. The Wapda Engineers Welfare Association will also take the case to the court and the Pesco officers will resort to the Peshawar High Court.
The government's decision to end free units is also expected to increase tax collections. Electricity bills also include taxes along with the price of electricity.
The caretaker government ended the facility of free electricity for the officers of the electricity companies. A notification has been issued for the abolition of free units for officers in BS 17 and above.
Officers of BS 17 to 21 will get monthly cash instead of free units.
The decision to abolish the free electricity units facility for the officers of all Discos, NTDC, Wapda, Gencos and ITC has been applied from 1st December, 2023.
