Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi laid the foundation stone of Major Muhammad Ishaq Shaheed Flyover on Walton Road on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He said the flyover will make Walton Road signal free and improve the traffic flow from Gulberg to Walton. He also said the flyover will be completed by February 15, as work is going on day and night.
The chief minister said that the flyover will cost Rs 1 billion, which is less than the previous plan of building two U-turns on Walton Road at a cost of Rs 1.2 billion. He said that this would save money and time for the public. He also said that a Rs 9 billion drainage project is underway in the CBD, which will benefit the communities of Walton, DHA, and Cantonment.
He said that Walton, DHA complex had more water than Lakshmi Chowk and there were problems in the flow of traffic. He said that all traffic and drainage issues in the area will be resolved by completing the flyover and the drainage project.
He expressed his hope that Major Muhammad Ishaq Shaheed Flyover will be completed before 120 days. He hoped that the CBD, Housing Department, NLC and other teams would build a great flyover like the past.
