PTI govt suspends Islamabad Mayor Ansar Aziz for corruption

The federal government has suspended Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Ansar Aziz, a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), on charges of corruption, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to a notification issued by the Interior Ministry in Islamabad on Sunday afternoon, the suspension of Mayor Ansar Aziz was for 90 days.
The mayor was accused of playing a role in undermining an official bidding process and also altering the contract bidding procedures.
The Interior Ministry issued the notification after the approval from the cabinet and on the recommendation of the Local Bodies Commission.
He is considered to be a close friend of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.
Sheikh Ansar Aziz was elected to the office of Islamabad Mayor on 15 February 2016 and took oath on 4 March 2016.
