Popular folk singer Sanam Marvi has reached an agreement with her former husband on the custody of their children.
According to the agreement, the children will stay with their mother four days a week and father three days a week. Sanam and her former husband have also reached an agreement on education and training of their children.
In June this year, Sanam had moved a guardian court in Lahore to take custody of her children. She asked the court to hand her the custody of her children. She said she took ‘khula’ from her husband because he was mentally unfit and could not look after their children. She asked the court to send the children with her as nobody could look after the children better than a mother.
Earlier in February this year, a family court in Lahore had released a decree allowing Sanam to part ways with her husband. The folk singer had married Hamid Ali in 2009, having three children with him afterwards. According to her plea, her husband's behaviour towards her changed soon after their marriage.
Sanam said in her plea the court should issue a khula decree as her husband had become abusive and violent. "I was putting up with his abuse for the sake of my children. It is no longer possible for me to be with my husband," she had pleaded. Family Court Judge Sana Afzal issued the decree for khula while Advocate Hamid Maqbool fought Sanam's case.
