Pakistan Army and Rangers teams have managed to extinguish devastating fire which wreaked havoc in Umerkot district in Sindh during the last 24 hours, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The fire originated from the Indian side had crossed into Pakistan and spread over 8 kilometres in the Umerkot district in Sindh province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

The blaze had engulfed several villages, including Niplo, Somo Samma, and Khokhrapar, destroying mud houses and huts. The dry and cold weather, along with parched trees and shrubs, has exacerbated the intensity of the fire.

The soldiers of Pakistan Army and Rangers were participating in fire control and relief activities. Relief activities have been started after controlling the fire in the affected area.

Assistant Commissioner Umerkot Rajab Ali said that survey was being conducted about the damage caused by the fire. The fire that broke out yesterday had engulfed an area of eight kilometers. The fire reportedly began in three separate locations along the Indian border and has now reached the Umerkot tehsil, with fears of further spread. Umerkot’s assistant commissioner has rushed to the affected areas along with firefighting teams to bring the situation under control.
